Zehn Jahre Irak-Krieg: Kopfgeld auf den Kriegspremier Tony Blair

[spiegel / 13.03.2013] Die Irak-Invasion ist zehn Jahre her, doch die Kriegsgegner lassen Tony Blair keine Ruhe: Wo der britische Ex-Premier hinkommt, droht ihm ein "Bürgerarrest". Wer ihn festnimmt, bekommt mehrere tausend Pfund Kopfgeld aus einem Spendenfonds - viermal wurde die Summe schon ausgezahlt. Kriegsgegner in aller Welt lassen Blair auch zehn Jahre nach dem Einmarsch der amerikanischen und britischen Truppen in den Irak keine Ruhe.

Sie halten den früheren Regierungschef für einen Kriegsverbrecher, verantwortlich für eine völkerrechtswidrige Attacke, die 100.000 Zivilisten das Leben gekostet hat. Sie wollen ihn vor den Internationalen Strafgerichtshof bringen - eine Forderung, die zuletzt der südafrikanische Friedensnobelpreisträger Desmond Tutu erhob.

[Guardian / 26.02.2013] Tony Blair has admitted that life in Iraq today is not what he had hoped it would be and the country is still facing "big problems". But he defended the war, saying that failing to remove Saddam Hussein would have entailed far worse consequences for the country.

"But the fact remains that he made two cardinal errors. First by allying himself too closely to the policies of George W Bush and second by ignoring the fact that Bush's objective of regime change was contrary to the Charter of the United Nations and illegal.

"Ten years on, it is almost impossible to find anyone in this country or even in the United States who is willing to support the military action against Saddam Hussein."
